Below each title I am working on including comments about what I have learned about each title. This is a work in progress as there are nearly 100 titles, so it will take some time. I am actively working on it, though.
Five More Minutes - Scott McCreery
This title is talking about passage of life's milestones and the hesitance we have of letting those life's experiences pass. The YouTube video clearly shows the innocence of this song, and is very inspirational. Don't be too quick to second guess any lyrics. Any innuendo should not be inserted by the suspicious mind.
Lucky - Jason Mraz/Colbie Caillat
This title is a about two friends who fall in love and celebrate the love between the two of them. The YouTube video is good, but Colbie does wear a low cut spaghetti strap dress.
Something Just Like This - ColdPlay and The Chainsmokers
This title seems to be for me about being satisfied with who you are, and being satisfied with who your friends are, just normal people living a normal daily life. The YouTube video depicts an animated boy in a superhero cape. It's delightful to watch and listen to.
Out of the Dark - Mandisa
Mandisa wrote this piece after a three year battle she had with her testimony in Christ and depression which fell on the heels of an unanswered prayer when a friend died cancer. She professes that the only thing she eventually found to pull her out of her depression was coming back to her Savior and after that, there was no turning back. She was able to find joy in her life again. "It only takes on flicker of light to bring us out of the darkness."
Fighter - Keith Urban/Carrie Underwood
Awesome guitar playing by Keith Urban! This is an upbeat song about two people who find each other and pledge to help each other through the trials of life. Carrie wears a grungy outfit which will be seen as grubby by the older generation, cute by the younger, and slightly immodest by LDS standards, showing the shoulders, but other than that, it's a very feel good video. I wouldn't feel bad letting any age group watch the video.
The Champion - Carrie Underwood
This is a sports comeback triumph type song. It's about courage, coming back from disappointments, Carrie's singing is amazing. The video is just a lyric video so fine to watch.
You Bring the Summer - The Monkees
The Monkees reunify with a new album. This is an upbeat and very fun song about how the singers love interest makes everything summery and happy. The video contains cartoon scenes of the Monkees from their TV series and includes a cartoon version of Davy Jones. Very nostalgic!
She Makes Me Laugh - The Monkees
Another hit from the Monkees reunion album, Good Times. This is very catchy, and you'll find yourself singing to it. The video is an animation of a comic strip with contains the Monkees.
Survivor - Donny Osmond
Other than my favorite hims, this is my life theme song. It's about Donny's journey through being a teen idol to being rejected by the music industry as he grew because he refused to step away from his faith and behave badly. It talks about how he is who he is and how that helped him to come back better and stronger.
Then There's You - Marie Osmond/Alex Boye
Marie has said that this song is written to her and about her son who died of suicide, and about the strength of coming to Christ to help overcome life's greatest trials. She wears what looks from first sight to be a suggestive and immodest dress by an LDS person that might be put-offish. It's not completely horrible, but it is not what one would expect her to wear due to her faith. She wears sultry Elvira smokie eye make-up which was of a necessity due to an injury of the eye that occurred the day before the shoot when a cabinet fell on her and gave her a black eye. The song is catchy. She and Alex sound great together, and when you think of the basis of the song, you may cry when you watch the video. Knowing the context really helps with falling in love with this song.
Bright - Echosmith
Echosmith is a band made up of siblings. The lead vocal, Sidney is accompanied by her three brothers, and her voice could be mistaken for the young Taylor Swift. This song is about how her love makes the day brighter. It does have the lyric "you sprinkle star dust on my pillowcase". That could be taken as innuendo, but the video is completely innocent except for Sidney's midthigh dress if modesty is a concern. I'm including it on the list because if you aren't trying to construe anything not blatantly spoken the song is very innocent compared to what is regularly played on the radio.
Fight Song - Rachel Patton
This is an autobiography about Rachel's fight to find a record label who would not reject her. The YouTube video shows different situations where she is struggling to write at the piano and other locations. For those concerned about modesty, she wears shoulder showing spaghetti strapped blouses that also show a bare midriff. She song can also be an inspiration to those fighting the day to day adversities of life.
Now I Can - Jarrett Burns
There is no video for this song that I can find. This is a very slow danceable song from a very pleasant voice. This piece was written for children with disabilities for the Now I Can Foundation. It's inspirational and very danceable as I said. I hope this song gets more notariety in the future. It's a great song. It has one part where a children's choir sings a long.
Rather Be - Clean Bandit
This is simply a song with clean lyrics where the singer is stating she'd rather be with the person she is singing to more than anywhere else. In the YouTube video the main character finds herself in many situations where she realizes she doesn't want to be. The video is not nasty or bad per se, but it's not really for children to watch, and the main character is wearing a pretty skimpy blouse that shows a lot of skin.
Happy - Pharrell Williams
Just about everyone knows this song and it's meaning. It's a "if your happy and your know it clap your hands" type of song. It's a great upbeat happy feel good type of song and the video is just as good!
Geronimo - Shepphard
The name of this song is named after the Apache leader Geronimo. There is not a whole lot to the song by way of story. It's simply about a man and a woman who come from opposing territories at war, they are war torn and reunite with each other with a kiss. The video reminds me of my ten year-old son and his 9 year-old neighborhood friend when they get hold of my empty Amazon boxes and make their makeshift guns and swords and play war. The video shows a group of young adults that make a big silly not scary looking monster out of cardboard that walks. There are two opposing factions dressed in cardboard armor getting ready to fight each other. The two factions fight each other with their cardboard weapons. They look in their faces like they are doing the real serious thing of fighting war with each other, but it's also reminiscent of a bunch of teenagers getting together just to play a silly war game with carboard. They have serious looks on their faces, but you know they are having a good time. Then the lead singer and a girl soldier from the other side notice each other, kiss each other and the cardboard monster walks away. Bizarre but innocent.
Love Runs Out - One Republic
My interpretation of this song: When the Love Runs Out can mean, that the voice in the song will there to endure until the love runs out. If love is eternal than he's never going to leave no matter what. True love is eternal. True love is not fleeting. I think that's what Ryan Tedder means, but your own perception will be the interpretation. The video reminds me of the boat ride on the old Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory movie with Gene Wilder. It flashes with many wild images and can be too intense to some. The images represent all things, all continents, all stages of life, all weather patterns, all earthly elements. I would say the video it's PG rated just because it needs parental explanation to children, and might be too intense for young children. Maybe the song is too, but there's nothing explicit in either the song or the video.
Something in the Water - Carrie Underwood
This is a country / Christian cross over piece about baptism that one Rolling Stones acclaim! Amazing! It's a song about gratitude appreciation, and Carrie Underwood's voice in showcased in the best way. I never really knew much about her voice and it's power until I heard this song. Video-wise Carrie is shown singing the piece with ballet dancers dancing around her. The artistry is amazing. For those who are concerned with LDS modesty standards, which are ever increasingly being noticed as more strict than general Christian modesty standards, the outfits worn by the dancers and Carrie would need explanation to a youth watching this video. There are low cut dresses, with bare shoulders, but the song is uplifting compared to what is coming out generally from Country music these days and Carrie's voice is is amazing, and I particularly like the voice over of Amazing Grace mixed into the piece.
